Skirt for Beginners
This course is good for people who would like to try dressmaking but don't want to take on a big project. This is a perfect introduction to dressmaking.
On the first lesson you will learn:
-
How to thread a sewing machine.
-
The importance of choosing the right thread and needle.
-
How to fill a spool.
-
How to create seams and turn corners.
-
To complete a simple cushion cover with a zip fastening.
After following the basics and getting to grips with sewing in a straight line, you will use your new found skills to make a simple cushion. A great start before you will attempt more ambitious sewing projects!
During the next two lessons you will learn how to:
-
Cut your fabric correctly.
-
Construct your skirt.
-
Sew in a zip.
-
Complete a waistband and hem.
-
Use a over-locking machine to give a professional finish.
We also offer a bespoke skirt pattern making service from an extra £5. Measurements must be taken or supplied before the lesson.
We recommend taking advantage of this as commercial patterns are produced using standard measurements. These take a long time to adjust and the extra time taken will result in your project taking longer than 3 sessions to complete. (These extra sessions are not included in the course price and will need to be booked separately.)
Course length: 9 hours.
Cost of materials are not included.
All materials including fabric, zip and button must be ready for second lesson. All advice on materials will be given in the first lesson.
